Louisville
has come out with it's first 3 piece composite bat
design with the TPX Triton bat. It uses something they call 3X
Composite technology. Basically what this means is that the handle, and
barrel are both separate pieces, and are connnected by something called
the "Transition Bubble." This bonds together the handle and barrel to
create a very strong "1 piece" bat.
It also uses computer technology to precisely layer the
graphite at just the right angles to produce a very large barrel sweet
spot. Of all the TPX baseball bats, this model is the only 3 piece
design.

The
H2 Hybrid bat takes the composte or "3X" material used in the Triton
bat, and uses it only for the handle of this model. The barrel is made
up of the ST+20 alloy that was previously used in the 2008 Exogrid
model. Their website states that the move to a composite
handle/aluminum barrel design makes for an even stronger and stiffer
bat, which allows for more barrel flex and more trampoline effect on
contact with the ball. This is one of two hybrid models of all of the
TPX baseball bats of 2009.

The
2009 TPX Exogrid bat makes up the other hybrid model put out by
Louisville. It
uses the ST+20 alloy used in the H2 model, but this bat contains a
carbon composite sleeve that runs the length of the handle. In addition
to the sleeve, carbon is also inserted in a grid pattern at the handle
to reinforce its strength. Extreme heat and pressure are used to
combine the carbon sleeve, inserts, and the aluminum alloy to make one
solid single unit.

The
Air Exogrid bat is very similar to the regular Exogrid in that it is a
1-piece hybrid bat. The difference lies in the fact that it contains an
air chamber in the barrel. This is to isolate the hitting zone from the
rest of the bat, and enhance the sweet spot. Louisville claims that it
is the most advanced bat on the market today. It certainly is the most
expensive.

The
2009 Omaha aluminum model is just a one piece model that uses the ST+20
alloy throughout the length of the bat. The Omaha Composite is just the
same, but only it uses their 7C composite material. This is the second
year for the Omaha composite model. The one piece all aluminum Omaha
model has been around for a few years.

Louisville advertises that the TPX baseball bats are the best on the market because they are the stiffest bats around. They make the argument that a stiff handle allows the barrel to flex at just the right time which causes more power at contact. Just got the 2010 model. It's like the entire barrel is one juicy sweetspot. Ridiculous for power hitters.
