The TPX baseball bats of 2012 are pretty similar to last year's models with the exception of a couple new additions...the Vertex, Triton II, and the Armor. The staples of lineup still include the Exogrid 2, Z-1000, Omaha, Catalyst, and Warrior.
Note: Comparable models listed are similar in construction and price.

One of the staples in TPX baseball bats for several years has been the Exogrid and 2012 is no exception with their Exogrid 2. This year's bat is basically the same as last year's Exogrid 2 with the exception of something called Power Disc Technology. They are 2 discs that are placed inside the barrel at the sweet spot to reinforce and increase the strength of the sweet spot. Like last year, it uses the AC21 Scandium alloy from Louisville along with the grid like cutouts of alloy replaced by carbon composite inserts at the handle. This is to make the handle very strong and prevent the handle from flexing so the barrel can flex. The composite material also helps to form an internal sleeve that is bonded with the aluminum at extreme heat to form one solid unit.
Price for the Exogrid this year is at $300 for the BBCOR model, $280 for the senior models, and $200 for the youth models.

This year's Z-1000 model features a new composite material, the LS-2X, which is different than their previous designs in that it uses thinner, stronger fibers forming a thinner barrel, producing more trampoline effect. Another technology is the "Swing 1 inner Disc" technology, or S1iD. This features inner discs in the barrel that affect the way the barrel flexes. It allows the bat to flex right up to the performance limits. The Z-1000 is Louisville's most expensive model for 2012 with the adult category at $370 and senior at $300. As of December of 2011, there doesn't appear to be a youth option available.
![]() Vertex Adult -3 Senior -9.5 Youth -13 |
The Vertex is a new model for this year from Louisville picking up where the H2 Hybrid from previous years has left off. This model is similar to the Exogrid 2 in that it uses the same materials. It uses the AC21 Scandium alloy in the barrel, and the LS-2X composite material in the handle. Louisville's YouTube video claims that this bat has an even stiffer handle than the Exogrid 2. The adult model is $280, the senior is $250, and the youth is $200.
![]() Omaha Adult -3 Senior -5 Senior -10 Big Barrel Senior -10 Youth -10 Big Barrel Youth -13 |
Ah, the traditional Omaha. Always a staple of the TPX lineup. ST+20 alloy throughout. What more can I say, it's been one of the legends of the game of baseball for what seems like about a decade and a half now. As of December, 2011 the price for the BBCOR model is $150, the senior models are $180 or $150 depending on which model you go with, and the youth model is around the $100 mark.
![]() Triton II Senior -12 Youth -12 |
The Triton II is uses the X-1 composite material from Louisville, and is available in senior and youth models. The former Triton was a 3-piece model, but this year's is a 1-piece. Price for the senior model is $250, and the youth is $150.
![]() Catalyst Senior -11 Big Barrel Senior -11 Youth -12 |
Another affordable option for someone looking for an all composite model would be the Catalyst. It uses the C1C composite material from Louisville and is available in a 2-3/4" barrel option in the senior league category. Prices are $200 for senior models and $90 for the youth model.
![]() Warrior Adult -3 Senior -5 Senior -9 Youth -13 |
Another long-standing member of Louisville's lineup has been the Warrior. It's another low-cost aluminum option for those not looking to dish out big bucks. It uses Louisville's 7050 alloy. BBCOR is $95, senior models are $85, and youth models are $65.
![]() Armor Adult -3 Senior -8 Youth -12 |
If the Warrior was a low-cost option for those looking for a one-piece alloy model than, consider the Armor a dirt-cheap option. The adult model is $60, the senior $55, and youth $40.
