Rip-It Baseball Bats of 2012

Read About the Prototype and Prototype 2 Models

Since Rip-It and their baseball bats are fairly new to the game, they do not have mega bucks invested in composite bat technology which has worked out to their advantage. So when the BBCOR standard came out Rip-It ditched their BESR design from last year and designed their BBCOR model from the ground up. It seems to be catching on and these bats are getting pretty good reviews.

Note: Comparable models listed are similar in construction and price.

Prototype 2

Rip-It 2012 Prototype 2 Bat
Prototype 2 Adult -3
  • 1-piece model
  • All aluminum alloy material,
  • End-loaded swingweight
  • Comparable model: Rawlings Velo

The Prototype 2 is made of Rip-It's alloy called Advanced Tempered Ballistic Alloy, or ATBA, which the company claims is the most responsive alloy from any BBCOR bat on the market. They have replaced the sweet spot of the bat with what they call the "sweet barrel." Their marketing angle is that their alloy is better than composite bats due to the fact that their is no break-in time, and performance will be great right out of the wrapper.

Another one of the features of the Rip-It baseball bats are the grips. They use memory foam so that they conform to each individual batter's hand. This is a different approach than usual, and for those that are picky about grip, this may be another advantage for you. The price of the Prototype 2 BBCOR weights in at $280 and is the most expensive 1-piece all alloy model in the 2012 lineup of bats.

Prototype

Prototype Adult -3
  • 1-piece model
  • All aluminum alloy material
  • Comparable models: Baden Axe Element, Worth Toxic Prodigy

The Prototype model is very similar to the Prototype 2, and it rings in at $180. As far as what I can tell, the only difference between the Prototype and Prototype 2 is that the 2 uses the ATBA alloy and this one does not. Both bats however seem to have a great reputation and are getting great reviews around the web. I would highly consider them.
