Reviews of the Phoenix Bat Company

The Phoenix Bat Company has asked me to use and review one of their wood baseball bats. The Phoenix Bat Company, located in Columbus, OH, has an interesting story.

The owner, Charley Trudeau went from making vintage bats as a hobby in his workshop for his local recreation league, all the way to producing bats for professional ballplayers with their lathe which they claim is the most advanced on the market...(the "next version up" from Louisville Slugger's lathe).

While browsing Phoenix's website, you'll notice that they make wood bats for baseball and softball, along with wood composites and vintage bats similar to those used in the 1800s and early 1900s.

Disclaimer: I was not paid to give this review. Any opinions I share here are strictly my own.

I'm mainly going to discuss the "Pro Series" baseball bats, because they are probably the most popular and relevant to the visitors of this site. The 3 most popular models are the BB71, the R141, and the V243. The bat that I was sent was the R141. Rather than me try and explain it to you, I'll just let Charley tell you about these three models in his YouTube video.

The bat they sent me was the R141 maple model. As you can see it has a dark reddish colored barrel, and an unfinished handle. It's a beautiful bat.

When I opened up the box and got this bat in my hands I liked it immediately. I've never really been a home run hitter (although it wasn't unheard of either;), so I liked the idea that it had a balanced feel to it, rather than being barrel loaded. It's pretty much exactly like Charley discussed in the video. It has a medium to thin sized barrel and a nice feel for a line-drive/base-hit type of hitter, like myself. I usually use a 34 inch bat, but this was a 33 in. so it did feel a bit too much on the light side, but I imagine if I had this bat in a 34 inch version, it would feel just about perfect.

After using it to take some batting practice, I really have grown to love the feel of this bat. The ball jumps off the bat nicely, and I feel like I do have good control of where I place the ball, as the video mentions.

Outside of the popular 3 models mentioned in the video, Phoenix does have several other Pro Series baseball bats. You'll have to check out their website to see more. In summary, from the one bat that I've used from the Phoenix Bat Company, I have nothing but positive things to say about the Phoenix baseball bats.
