Mattingly Bats for 2009 and V-Grip Technology

Mattingly bats of 2009 feature the Beast and the Ripped models. One is composite, the other is alloy, and they are both 1-piece. No hybrids or 2-piece designs, but just simple straightforward bats that use an unusual handle design.

Beast

Mattingly Beast BatThe Beast bat is an all composite, 1-piece model that uses the patented V-Grip technology exclusively from Mattingly. It is a design feature on the bat handle where they have shaped the handle like a V, rather than the usual round handle that is standard on most bats. According to Mattingly, this has statistically proven to improve bat speed in youth ballplayers up to 7%. This design forces the hitter to line up the knuckles in a fashion that prevents the hands from getting locked up, and forces more of a snap of the wrists. The bat is held in the fingers rather than the palms like some youth hitters will tend to do.

Ripped

Mattingly Ripped BatThe Ripped bat is an all aluminum alloy model and is 1-piece as well. It uses Mattingly's MB555c Scandium Alloy. It also uses the same V-Grip technology that is used in the Beast model.

Summary

The question is does the V-Grip technology work like they say it does? I can't speak personally but I could see how this could be a good feature, especially for younger players who are still learning how to grip the bat and properly "throw the hands at the ball."
