Batting tees are most likely a training aid that you've probably used already if you've been around the game of baseball for very long. They are an excellent device to use if you are looking to really analyze your swing and see why you are hitting the ball where you are.

Although they should not be the only tool used to practice your swing, the batting tees listed below should be a useful tool. Tee work is great when supplemented with soft toss (from soft toss pitching machines or a live person), live pitching and batting practice. Don't forget that you will want to have a good soft toss net to hit into. Tee work is also great when supplemented with the use of a video camera to analyze your swing even greater.
I've divided the batting tees up into two categories. Basic tees, which are just plain old tees. And also traning tees, such as the 5 position, or 3 position, which are used to train you in specific phases of your swing.
The overwhelming concensus among
most ballplayers and coaches today is that the Tanner Tee is about the
best you can get for the price. As of this writing (February 09') you
can get these for $50 from the Tanner Tee website. They are constructed
very well, and they should last you a long time. The rubber piece that
the ball sits on, is designed to be durable enough to withstand the
continuous beating it will get from the swings.

A
very
similar and less expensive model is the Schutt Tee. Although very
similar to the Tanner, I've heard that these are not as durable and
they tend to break down a bit sooner. They also supposedly come
disassembled pretty easily if you hit the tee part a little too hard.
At this time Baseball Equipment Review cannot recommend the Schutt tee
over the Tanner, just based on the things I've heard, although I have
no personal experience with it.
We
also have the Atec model.
These tees are constructed with a very high quality and are made very
durable. In fact, I've heard they are so durable, that they even have
been known to cause minor damage to wood bats if you get under the ball
when the tee is struck. If you're willing to spend a bit more for your
tee, the Atec could be a good choice if used along with their bristle
top. This is a piece that fits onto the tee and has bristles, much like
you'd find on a vacuum cleaner fitting, that the ball sits on top of.
This would help keep your bats from getting dinged up if you happen to
get underneath the ball a little. If you want a tee for team use or one
that will last you a long time, and you can afford to spend a few extra
bucks, the Atec would be my choice.

The most basic of the training batting tees are the multi position tees. These allow you to practice hitting balls pitched to the inside or outside of the plate, rather than just right down the middle.
First
we
have the Jugs 5 Position Tee. Since the product is from Jugs, I can
probably guess that it is made very sturdy and of high quality. You can
practice hitting the inside pitch out in front of you and pull the
ball, and the outside pitch a little bit behind you so you can practice
driving it to the opposite field.

A
very similar model from Fanklin is their 3 Position Tee. I cannot
personally speak of the quality of this tee, but at the time of this
writing, this tee is about half the price of the Jugs tee, so if you
are looking to save a little money, check this one out.

The
EquiTee Performance Swing Tee from Champro is a popular model that is
used to prevent an
uppercut on your swing. If you look at the design, you'll notice that
there is a piece that sits in front of the ball that would require the
hitter to swing a bit downward to hit the ball. Any sort of uppercut
would not allow contact with the ball and the tee itself would be
struck. It seems to be pretty affordable as well.
