ATEC pitching machines and their micro-adjustment system

Just like Jugs, the ATEC pitching machines are a very high quality product. I have never personally used one of them in practice, but I know they have a good reputation and look to be constructed very well.

The high-end models of the ATEC line are the Casey Pro and Casey Pro 3G. The 3G meaning "3rd generation." These machines have two wheels and are able to throw basically any kind of pitch, including fastballs, curveballs, sliders, and even knuckleballs. It can throw up to speeds of 100 mph.

Although they are both very similar in design, and both constructed with high quality, the characteristic that sets the 3G apart from the original Casey Pro is a feature called the micro-adjustment system. Micro-adjustment means that the person operating the machine is able to make tiny adjustments to the machine which will move the pitch all around the strike zone. To be exact, it is able to move the pitch throughout a range of 36” in height, and 18” in width.

This will allow the coaches to simulate game like pitching and work on hitting an exact spot in the strike zone. Hitters can work on hitting balls pitched to all parts of the strike zone, creating a more realistic at-bat experience.

If you’re looking for something a little less pricy, you’ll have to look at the Axis (pictured below) or the Power Hummer machines. These are priced in the $1,500-$1,900 range, but they are not able to throw quite as hard as the Casey machines. The Axis will give you 70 mph, and the Power Hummer 80 mph. They are also great for fielding practice as they are able to rotate very easily so you can hit all positions in the field for a more efficient practice.

The Casey 2 machine will throw baseballs and softballs up to 60 mph and is priced around $1,000. The youth model machine is the Rookie and is priced around $1,000 as well. It can throw up to 65 mph.

A couple other of the low-end models that throw training baseballs or wiffle balls are the Radius and the Power Streak. These are for indoor or backyard use and are available for a few hundred bucks, depending on where you get them.

All in all, I wouldn’t hesitate endorsing the use of the ATEC pitching machines as they appear to be great products and not to mention they are the offical pitching machine of Major League Baseball. They are priced pretty fairly against the other brands of machines and they have many models to choose from depending on your budget.
